Maintenance /Repair

Have you ever consider the differences and the similarities between the two terms Maintenance and Repair? I ask this question because I want you to reflect on your own habits and how the habits of yourself and others may have conditioned you to believe or act a certain way within your relation-ships with others.

But for a moment lets consider this short example :

Story: An expensive item was purchased brand new, and was used frequently, without consciousness , service or care.

Now two years later...

A.) the item is in need of service (repair) and the price proves to be costly to fix.

-----or -----

B.) the once dependable item is now beyond repairable

After reading this short example I bet you can now assume what happened to cause A. and B. to be the leading choices. If your line of thinking was that the item was repeatedly used but never maintained or sent in for maintenance or service---then you are correct!

Often we as people have the habit of waiting until something is broken before we take it in to get it properly repaired--- not maintenance but repaired! And you know the difference because experience teaches us that maintenance service is much cheaper than repair service. Leading example: recently I was having trouble with my laptop, my C drive was full, I could not download or add any new software. I kept getting all kinds of messages about my C drive being full and in the red, along with anti-virus alerts. Tired of getting alerts I tried to reset my PC to new and follow youtube advice--Ha! Until I had completely erased my whole Windows Program! Long story short I had no choice but to take it in to a PC repair shop to get my PC Windows Re-installed again. I now realize that my laptop issue was not a DIY(Do-It-Yourself, this was a PIM (Pay-It-Myself) and after I paid the PC shop it was costly but my Laptop is repaired.

So now that we've went through several leading examples about the terms: Maintenance and Repair. You should be able to apply this to yourself and your own relation-ships with others. Importantly, when it comes to the overall health of your relation-ships , are you able to identify and examine the patterns within. Are you both focused on maintaining the health over your relationship or are you both carelessly using habitual defenses or responses to influence or exert control. As relation-ships with others are about balance in some cases negative traits or patterns disrupt the balance but what turns things around is when people are wiling to see problems as a form of open -communication.
